snug documentation

snug is a friendly content authoring solution.

It’s like hugo / zola, etc.

snug is similar to static website generators like hugo and zola in that, when building a website:

  • All the content is on disk, in Markdown (.md) files
  • You can bring your own templates (via minijinja)
  • You can bring your own styles (via SCSS)

However, it’s opinionated:

  • All images must be stored in .jxl format
  • All short videos must be stored in .mp4 format, with AV1+Opus codecs

snug helps with that by letting you drag media directly into your browser when editing the site locally

snug deploys directly to a CDN hosted by bearcove: there’s a control node in the middle named the “mom”

Branding

Please note these important branding guidelines:

  • snug: Always lowercase, never capitalized as “Snug”
  • bearcove: Always lowercase, never capitalized as “Bearcove”
  • mom: The central service, always lowercase
  • cub: The edge node service, always lowercase
